Wires - Things to Consider Before Buying

Wires: Things to Consider Before Buying

Wires and cables are in demand almost everywhere for electrification whether in houses, offices or industries. Needless to say, it is the basic necessity of every electrical installation as a mandatory product to complete the electrical circuit. Therefore, people need to understand the importance of good quality wire and cable; as substandard quality can give rise to many risks and threats such as accidents that involve electric currents. Also, as wire(s) and cables are conductors of electricity in your house, you must ensure every aspect in terms of safety. No matter whether you are using them for residential purpose or commercial purpose; a wire or cable must be able to perform well in critical situations such as overloading and sudden electrical fluctuations.

If you’re constructing your home or thinking of upgrading the wires and cables in your home. You need to keep the following things in mind:

Quality of conducting material

There are generally two types of wires – copper and aluminium. Undoubtedly, copper is a better conductor of electricity and performs better in the case of conducting electricity. Electrolytic grade copper is the best conducting material in economic terms to manufacture wires because it is highly ductile and has low resistant providing 100% conductivity. But when measuring the conductivity, please consider other factors, i.e. the size of the cables and the insulation materials used. In the case of super-high voltage carried for longer distance, the use of aluminium is a great idea as it is economical than copper. Aluminium is also inexpensive as compared to Copper and hence used vividly in the making of electrical power cables. Tips: We recommend that using aluminium in manufacturing wires is not a great idea; as it has higher resistance & low conductivity.

Insulation

Insulation is the terms used for material which insulates the bare conductor making it safe for installation. Flame retardant grade PVC (poly vinyl chloride) should always be used for as insulation material. Cables insulation is done by FR PVC & sheathing can be of FR or non FR grade PVC.

Flexibility

Usually now at present flexible conductor wires are available in market. Still in some pockets solid conductor wires are also available but one should always use flexible wires as they are easy to lay in conduit, electrician friendly. Flexible wires have more number of annealed conductors as compared to solid wires thus providing more flexibility to wires.

Reliable manufacturers and sellers

Market is where you can see and bought wires and cables by various brands, some of which meets the required standards. Thus it is very important to know the manufacture and seller who only manufactures wires as per standard and seller who only sells quality material of organized companies.
